the kitten maze

about the plot

Love animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don’t harrass them, don’t deprive them of their happiness, don’t work against God’s intent. Man, do not pride yourself on superiority to animals; they are without sin, and you, with your greatness, defile the earth by your appearance on it, and leave the traces of your foulness after you – alas, it is true of almost every one of us!

      – Fyodor Dostoyevsky

The war in Ukraine has left millions of people homeless and millions of animals without care and shelter. Following the words of the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the only measure of humanity is how we treat the animals, and what Russian aggression put to a mighty test. The film will show the stories of dogs, cats and other pets that, being part of war, which they do not understand. Above all “the kitten maze” is a journey with a group of cats rescued in Mikolajew, through the prism of which we will show how in a war-torn country, women and men from Ukraine, Europe and the USA fight for the preservation of humanity. Providing medical assistance to animals and evacuating them from a war zones. Their journey will not goes without complications, forcing our kittens heroes and heroines to quickly adapt to new conditions, new people, and places. The purpose of this journey for several of them will be return to their former owners, who for various reasons could not evacuate with them and looking for new loving caregivers. “The kitten maze” is a film showing the diversity of characters and attitudes such as distrust, fear, but also love and support that we can offer each other.

Producer explication

This film is not and will not be attempt to explore the history of Ukrainian horror, but it is an attempt to show a universal story, of the interdependence of people and animals, which in my opinion has a transnational character. This assumption makes “the kitten maze” an attractive proposition for audiences around the world, especially taking into account the international origin of the film human characters, such as Ukraine, US, Polish, British and German.
